INTRODUCTION
Desert Master® is a NON-COMPETITIVE sport event, driving on sand and navigation.
Shaula Viaggi, based in Italy, via Gian Rinaldo Carli 15, 20161 Milan, is the organizer of the 2024 edition and Issomode ltd, based in Cyprus, 3026 Limassol, 9 Vassili Michailidi is the owner of the brand and promoter.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
No disposable containers are permitted during the event. Participants must bring reusable plates, cutlery and water bottles. It will be mandatory to divide waste at the camp and dispose of it in the appropriate recycling bins. It is recommended to use paper and biodegradable wipes, to switch off the vehicle if stuck and protect ground from fuels and oils during repair and refueling.
VEHICLE AND CREW
Permitted Vehicle:
- 4×4 cars with low gear and with maximum 35′ wheel. Hard top is mandatory
- 2 people must travel in each car
Mandatory:
- first aid kit and survival kit
- 2 shovels
- minimum 2 sand plates,
- 1 strop with soft shackles,
- fuel range of at least 300km in sandy terrain /!\ consumption can be 75lt/100km/!\ ,
- Garmin In Reach system mounted and powered as per the supplier’s specifications,
- drinking water reserve of at least 10 litres (to be used only in case of emergency),
- minimum 3 lt. water bottles each member of the crew ( can be in multiple containers),
- fire extinguisher of minimum 2kg,
- textile cable in case of winch,
- 2.7m safety flag,
- food and water provision for lunch, for marathon stage and in case of overnight camp,
- camping equipment,
- hydraulic jack or inflatable balloons, etc.,
- 12v compressor,
- Garmin gps or navigation App,
- telephone with enough credit to call in Tunisia,
Recommended:
- Off road tyres with beadlock rims,
- fridge with food provision (you can bring some speciality of your country),
- minimum 30lt. of water for shower,
- side awning,
- shower tent and solar water bag,
- tool box,
- little stock of spare parts,
- 12-220v power converter,
- roll cage,
- wireless intercom,
- VHF radio or ICOM SAT Radio or Sat. Phone
Not permitted:
- fix mounted hydraulic jacks,
- Hi-lift jack
Crew clothing
All crew must wear helmet, adapted clothing and closed shoes. Rugged gloves are mandatory while working outside the car.
Master kit
Every participant will receive a Master kit comprising of:
- beige Sahara shirt
- desert hat
ROUTE AND NAVIGATION
All participants must arrive at the Mouradi Hotel Douz on 28/10/2024 before 10h00.

Must be completed every day by participants:
- CAMP to CAMP to become SILVER DESERT MASTER
- CAMP to CAMP+ LOOP GOLD to become GOLD DESERT MASTER
- CAMP to CAMP+ LOOP GOLD + LOOP BLACK + NIGHT LOOP to become BLACK DESERT MASTER
Timelines
Travelling is permitted between sunrise and sunset. An alarm will sound to signal when participant are able to start each morning. Sunrise is set at 06h30 and sunset at 17h30.
The time table is at the beginning of the day’s road book and defines the entry times into the various loops and the maximum travel times.
Participants who have not reached the camp by this time will have to stop where they are and camp independently for the night. Not complying will exclude the team from finisher list.
The following day participants will be able to set off again towards the camp and then continue on the next day’s itinerary..
Mandatory Signature Control
Every time a crew ends a loop must go to the PCO for the mandatory signature check. The lack of signature will exclude the crew from the list of finishers.
In some circumstances the loops will not end at the camp and if there is no organization staff present in radio contact with the PCO, it will be mandatory to send a message via the “Garmin Messenger app” to the PCO with:
- location
- text “start” + “color loop”
Messages sent before the loop opening time will not be taken into consideration
Navigation
A directional road book is provided for all stages during checks in Douz. Distances and caps are calculated.
Participants will have to follow the track provided and stay in a 150m corridor. Waypoints must be validated by passing a maximum of 100m from the point,
Staying outside the corridor or passing more than 100m from the waypoints, with a proven advantage, will be considered as not having completed the Desert Master.
At the end of the stage, all participants will have to go to the PCO for signature control. Upon request, the PCO may request the GPS in order to download the day’s track. For participants who do not use Garmin GPS, the track must be provided via USB or SD card or via email/whatsapp.
Garmin gps
A GARMIN gps or a navigation app are mandatory.
2 weeks previous the event all the participant will receive:
- boundaries of all the Desert Master 2024 route in order to download the satellites maps,
- “Road book Zero” from Tunis harbour to Hotel Mouradi Douz
- Warm up track and waypoints.
The tracks and waypoints of each stage will be sent to the participants during the scrutineering.
COMMUNICATION AND RULES
Garmin InReach and Tracking
While you stop for whatever reason, the device will ask you if you need assistance. Not replying is considered not following the regulation and at the second time the participant will be excluded from finisher list (first time = warning).
Radio VHF, Satellite Radio type ICOM or Satellite phone
A radio VHF or a satellite radio type Icom or a Satellite phone are strongly recommended.

Rules
Each day participants will score for a status of Desert Master: Silver, Gold or Black. The lower result of the 5 days will determine the final status.
A scoring plate will be applied on the bonnet of each car and displaying the result.

Assistance
Help between participants is allowed. No external assistance is allowed during the event.
Organisation is always available to help participants to find on the local market spare parts. Enjoying this type of service will considered the participant as non finisher. The payment of spare and transport must be paid directly to the local provider.
Organisation is not responsible of recovery of broken vehicles on the route but will help the participant to recover the vehicle via some specialized local providers.
LOGISTIC
Camps
Orion camp is strictly reserved to participants and staff.
Marathon camp will be located in a very remote area. Organisation will provide only medical assistance and water.
Food and beverage
Catering at Orion camp will be available every morning (breakfast) and every evening (diner).
The participants should be independent for every lunch, for dinner and breakfast at the Marathon camp. Mineral water will be provided by the organiser to refill only water bottles (refilling of jerry-can is not allowed). Catering do not provide any soft drink (if you bring soft drink with you must be in aluminium cans)
Toilet and shower at Orion camp
Chemical toilets are available ONLY for ladies. Organization do not provide any shower facility. Is strongly recommended to install in your car a shower tents and having solar bag to heat water during the day.
Fuel
PARTICIPANTS MUST START STAGE 1 WITH FULL TANK.
Fuel will be allways available at Orion camp. During stage 3 and stage 4 (marathon) a refuling point will be organised at mid stage in a strategic area.
Fuel must be paid directly to the provider at the camp and ordered day by day. The price of the fuel will be around 2€ and 2.3€ according the type.
Organisation is not responsible of the quality of fuel, which is regularly purchased in major gas station.
Medical assistance, personal accident insurance
A team of 3 medics will be divided:
- 1 doctor on S1 vehicle
- 1 doctor on S2 vehicle
- 1 doctor on S3 vehicle
In the case of an accident, organisation medics will attend and transport the patient to the closest hospital available.
Each participant must have an insurance covering personal accident and repatriation with no excess and with minimum 50.000 euro. Repatriation must be covered to the designated country of choice.
PRIZES
Crews, after the 5 stages, will be divided by
- FINISHERS à SILVER or GOLD or BLACK
- NON FINISHERS
Every FINISHER CREW will receive at the Master Night in Djerba:
- Patch Driver SILVER or GOLD or BLACK
- Patch Co-Driver SILVER or GOLD or BLACK
Only black finishers crews will receive:
- 1 MAX CASE each with:
- 1 Black Desert Master hat
- 1 Black Desert Master sticker kit
- 1 Black Desert Master mug
